CRYSTAL KINGDOM (Book 3 in The Kanin Chronicles) by Amanda Hocking

51tk6xe9rhL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_

Bookoutlet.com – Frostfie (Book 1 of The Kanin Chronicles)

Bookoutlet.com – Ice Kissed (Book 2 of The Kanin Chronicles)

Amazon.com – Crystal Kingdom (Book 3 of The Kanin Chronicles)

Genre: YA/Adult/Fiction/Fantasy

Plot: Cast out by her kingdom and far from home, she’s the Kanin people’s only hope.

Bryn Aven-unjustly charged with murder and treason-is on the run. The one person who can help is her greatest enemy, the gorgeous and enigmatic Konstantin Black. Konstantin is her only ally against those who have taken over her kingdom and threaten to destroy everything she holds dear. But can she trust him?

As Bryn fights to clear her name, the Kanin rulers’ darkest secrets are coming to light… and now the entire troll world is on the brink of war. Will it tear Bryn from Ridley Dresden, the only guy she’s ever loved? And can she join forces with Finn Holms and the Trylle kingdom? Nothing is as it seems, but one thing is certain: an epic battle is underway-and when it’s complete, nothing will ever be the same…

Opinion: This is the FINAL book in The Kanin Chronicles, and I am so sad to see it end! I wish there were twenty more books to go along this these, but unfortunately there isn’t. Crystal Kingdom wraps up the ever-growing turmoil in the Kanin kingdom, but not without bringing a full-fledged war that Bryn finds herself in the heart of.

After being charged with treason, Bryn Aven is on the run from the Kanin kingdom. But after only a few days in hiding, Konstantin Black finds her and persuades her to join forces to protect each other. Though Bryn is still unsure if she can fully trust Konstantin, she realizes that she could use all the help she can get in order to get back to Doldastam and protect the people she cares about. In an effort to clear her name, Bryn travels to different kingdoms in the hopes that she can persuade them in fighting against Queen Mina. But soon the Kanin Queen declares war on the Skojare kingdom, and Bryn has no other choice but to enlist in the fight against her home. Soon alliances are formed, and the kingdoms break out into a war for the ages.

I just LOVED this series. Crystal Kingdom perfectly wrapped everything up, and I was very happy with everything that happened. In this installment of The Kanin Chronicles Bryn is on the run because Queen Mina has charged her unjustly with treason. She teams up with Konstantin Black, and we are shown how much his character really has changed. I knew I was right in my reasoning for why Konstantin was always finding Bryn and protecting her, but I am more than a little disappointed in the final events. I won’t elaborate on that for a reason…read the books to know what I’m talking about! 😉 I found the character of Ridley to be a little…off in this book. Considering the things that happened to him in this book, I still think his character was just a little out of it. He was such a strong presence in Frostfire and Ice Kissed, so I think he fell a little flat in this one and I kind of forgot about his character. With so much going on in Crystal Kingdom, I don’t think I can be blamed for that one.

The reader is once again introduced to all new characters to love and hate, as well as “seeing” other places besides Storvatten and Doldastam. I enjoyed how the author showed many differences between the other kingdoms, in their ways of life and their royalty. We also FINALLY get to find out what has been really going on, and trust me, it ALL comes back around full circle. The author did a really fantastic job of tying everything together. She is so fantastic in her descriptions and small details, I felt like I was watching a movie unfolding in my hands.  The character of Bryn really shines in this final book, and she grows up a lot. I was so proud to see her character realize that honor and duty aren’t the only important things in life, but I do love what a strong and fierce warrior she is. Though I loved this series and this final book, I do have a qualm with how rushed the ending felt. So many times I’ve read a well-written and imagined story, with an ending that just feels too quick. I wish the author could have elaborated on some of those final scenes, because the pace of the series really needed there to be a strong ending to seal the deal for the reader.

With that said, AMAZING series! Maybe I just really like getting lost in fantasy stories about a strong female lead taking names with a badass sword in her hands. Or maybe, this series is just that addicting, who can really say? In any case, GO OUT AND GET THIS SERIES READERS! It’s a great way to get lost in another world for a few days, and who doesn’t love that?!

ICE KISSED (Book 2 in The Kanin Chronicles) by Amanda Hocking

18132923

Bookoutlet.com – Frostfire (Book 1 in The Kanin Chronicles)

Bookoutlet.com – Ice Kissed (Book 2 in The Kanin Chronicles)

Amazon.com – Crystal Kingdom (Book 3 in The Kanin Chronicles)

Genre: YA/Adult/Fiction/Fantasy

Plot: In the majestic halls of a crystal palace lies a secret that could destroy an entire kingdom…

Bryn Aven refuses to give up on her dream of serving the kingdom she loves. It’s a dream that brings her to a whole new realm…the glittering palace of the Skojare.

The Skojare people need protection from the same brutal enemy that’s been threatening the Kanin, and Bryn is there to help. Being half Skojare herself, it’s also a chance for her to learn more about her lost heritage. Her boss Ridley Dresden is overseeing the mission, but as their undeniable attraction heats up, their relationship is about to reach a whole new level―one neither of them is prepared for.

As they delve deeper into the Skojare world, they begin to unravel a long-hidden secret. The dark truth about her own beloved Kanin kingdom is about to come to light, and it’ll change her place in it forever…and threaten everyone she loves.

Opinion: Here we are, book 2 in The Kanin Chronicles. I swear I have been reading this series so fast that all the books are starting to blend together, but in a fantastic way. Ice Kissed begins right where book 1, Frostfire, has left off. Due to this being a three part series, and this being the middle book, I am probably going to run through this review rather quickly. It’s usually a bit easier to summarize the entire series as a whole in the last books review, so watch out for that one!

After Bryn and her boss Ridley return home from Storvatten, Bryn copes with the sense of failure at not locating the missing Skojare Queen; as well as, letting Konstantin Black escape again. As the threats on the Kanin kingdom grow, so do the threats at the kingdom in Storvatten. Bryn, along with a Högdragen guard named Kasper, are then sent back to protect the Skojare people and the kingdom. Due to the royal family feeling that there is corruption among their guards, Bryn and Kasper work to find out what was really behind the disappearance of Queen Linnea. Soon hidden secrets start to surface, and more than one mystery starts to intertwine as the kingdoms move closer to war.

So there is A LOT happening in this book, and there is no way I can touch on everything without this review taking at least two hours to read. Therefore, I will try to summarize the book in its entirety, without giving too much away. This book starts off with Bryn and Ridley just arriving back to Doldastam. Bryn is having some serious regrets about not being able to find Queen Linnea, and for letting Konstantin Black get away again. But Bryn being Bryn, she is determined more than ever to set things right and protect innocent people and her kingdom. Once again, Bryn finds herself at the Skojare palace with Kasper, a Högdragen guard, where they work together to find out what is really going on in the kingdom. After talking to multiple guards and the royal family, they feel that they keep hitting dead ends. But after the Skojare King is almost killed, they start to find clues as to what is really going on.

I really enjoyed this story, and think it was a great follow up to book 1. The main character is in a new setting, working with new characters, and there is another mystery intertwining into the already major issues that are happening. I think Bryn is developing into a great character, and in this installment she has proven to be a highly likeable and real person. The author has been doing a great job of keeping the reader on their toes about what the conclusion will be, and this book was no exception. I had started off having a VERY strong inkling to who was behind everything, but the author throws in all these extra “scenes” and problems that kind of started to throw me. At the end of the book I was completely shocked (but in some ways, not too shocked) about what happened to Bryn, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on book 3…which I just received in the mail! SCORE!

The relationship between Bryn and Ridley heats up in this book, and I mean it seriously HEATS up. It’s so hot it’s dipping over that line of PG-13 but kind of R rated…kind of. I will say, their wishy-washy-ness with each other was starting to get on my nerves in this book. Sometimes I wish I could just grab those characters, shake them, and make them get over their weird insecurities. Honestly guys, were all adults here!

I know I sped through this one, but it is all leading up to book 3 so that I can summarize the series as a whole. Book 2 is usually, in most cases, a book that sets up for the final book that brings everything together. The refreshing thing about this series that I am finding is that these books flow so perfectly together, and they each have their own special thing going on. I am really recommending this series to all of you, it has gotten me addicted for the past three days and I am going to be so sad when it’s over.

FROSTFIRE (Book 1 of The Kanin Chronicles) by Amanda Hocking

511BducBkCL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_

Bookoutlet.com – Frostfire – (Book 1 of The Kanin Chronicles)

Bookoutlet.com – Ice Kissed – (Book 2 of The Kanin Chronicles)

Amazon.com – Crystal Kingodm – (Book 3 of The Kanin Chronicles)

Genre: YA/Adult/Fiction/Fantasy

Plot: Hidden deep in the heart of a snow-covered wilderness lies the secret kingdom of the Kanin―a magical realm as beautiful as it is treacherous…
Bryn Aven has never fit into Kanin society. Her blond hair and blue eyes set her apart as an outsider―a half-blood unable to hold a respectable rank. But she’s determined to prove herself as a loyal protector of the kingdom she loves. Her dream is to become a member of the King’s elite guard, and she’s not going to let anything stand in her way…not even her growing feelings for her boss, Ridley Dresden. A relationship between them is strictly forbidden, but Bryn can’t fight her attraction to him. And she’s beginning to think he feels it too.
Meanwhile, there’s an attack on the kingdom―one that will test Bryn’s strength like never before. Finally, she has the chance to confront Konstantin Black, the traitor who tried to kill her father years ago. It’s up to Bryn to put a stop to him before he strikes again. But is she willing to risk everything to protect a kingdom that doesn’t accept her for who she really is? And when her mission brings her closer to Ridley, will she be able to deny her heart?

Opinion: It feels like forever since I have done a review! Which is probably because it has been quite some time…I blame work and school for that one. But not only have I not done a review, I have BARELY been reading!

So thankfully, the first book I started reading yesterday that has gotten me back into the swing of things was this little gem. MY OH MY readers, have I found a great series! But do you know what the BEST part is?!?! I got books 1 and 2 from Bookoutlet.com, book 1 is going for $2.49 and book 2 is going for $3.99. You can’t beat those prices. Unfortunately book 3 isn’t on there right now, so I had to go order it from Amazon.com, but keep checking because they restock a lot! I have inserted the links above so you can go find all of them.

Bryn Aven has been working her entire life towards joining the elite Högdragen, which is the highest form of guard that has the task of protecting the Kanin kingdom. When the reader first meets Bryn, it is right before her father is attacked by the Queen’s personal guard, for reasons that continue to be a mystery for years later. Now Bryn serves as a tracker, one who goes to human areas to locate and bring home changelings from their kingdom. But when on a mission to retrieve a high school student named Linus, Bryn notices that someone else is also tracking him. Soon, the man that tried to harm her father those years ago is thrown back into the picture and causing harm to the people in her kingdom. After several other high-ranking changelings become in danger, the trackers are forced to go out and retrieve all of them at once. Now Bryn, her fellow trackers, and her boss Ridley have the overwhelming task of trying to stop a full-fledged war from breaking out. All they have to do, is figure out why the changelings are being taken and who exactly is behind it all.

Long description, but it sadly barely summarizes what happens in this book. Because A LOT happens. It is a very addicting and smooth read from start to finish, and I finished it in about 5 hours…which of course lead me to then starting book 2 right after. Trust me when I tell you that this story is seriously addicting. The character of Bryn is a nice twist on those female badass protagonists that I am so fond of. I like that the author has made her a bit of an outcast, which in turn makes her character work that much harder for what she wants. I have found so many times in books that the female lead has all these amazing powers and can do things that nobody else can, which turns out to be kind of “eye-roll esque”. I like that Bryn has no specialty powers, which in turn makes her character have to work so much harder to be as good or even better than her fellow trackers. Her outlook on love, duty, and pride is highly refreshing. She isn’t a boy-crazy adolescent, she has goals and a focus that makes her very likeable and easy to follow. Though there is a small something that starts to brew between Bryn and her boss Ridley, it is so dragged out that I can honestly say this story focuses on the fantasy and action rather than the romance.

The story development is fairly well-done, in regards to the history that the author puts forth about the kingdoms and types of trolls/changelings. I have read a few other reviews that insisted that this series was rather monotonous or unoriginal. I personally found it to be the complete opposite of monotonous. There is not an excessive amount of “down-time” in between events, and the down-time that DOES happen is written in a way that doesn’t bore the reader and make them feel uninterested. Though there are quite a few fantasy stories out in the “BookWorld” right now that are similar, I found this to be a nice twist. The characters are fresh, the story highly developed, and the reader is kept guessing.

I really recommend this book and this series to anyone who loves a great fantasy story that highlights a female protagonist. As I had said before, I read this book in about five hours, and that was with multiple breaks. If I read it that quickly, please take that as a hint that I couldn’t get enough of it. This has definitely become a new favorite series of mine, and I am currently in the middle of reading book 2. Hope to have a review up for it soon! GO GET THIS SERIES READERS!!
