1. The Healer (The Healer series) by C.J. Anaya

Genre: YA/Fantasy

There’s no better way to start off a love triangle post then with a love triangle of EPIC proportions!

Step the f**k aside moody werewolves and sparkly vamps –

the Gods have arrived!

The Healer series tells the tale of two gods who basically fight over a girl who is prophesied to save the world. It switches between present tense and 1000 A.D., where our main character (Mikomi/Hope) learns that she is a reincarnated princess with extremely powerful healing abilities. She is prophesized to marry Masaru Katsu (Victor), the God of War, so they they may seal the veil that is bringing demons into the world…but NATURALLY she finds herself being pulled to Musubi (Tie), the God of Marriage.

The series is wonderful when it is in the flashbacks, and meh when it goes back to present times. BUT the flashbacks are SO incredible and captivating, packed with romance, action and detail, that reading the series just for that would be worth it.

2. Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass series) by Sarah J. Maas

Genre: YA/Adult/Fantasy

Hold on to your panties, boys and girls!

SJM just walked into the building to confuse your heart and give you a dose of book-boyfriend that will NEVER be replicated in real life.

…sorry.

Throne of Glass is the downright AMAZING, WONDERFUL, EVERYTHING series that you need to get involved in if you STILL refuse to read it.

There are stacks on STACKS of love triangles in this colossal series, and they are heart-wrenching, raw and will make your heart implode inside your chest from all the feels.

There are practically 30 combinations of love interests and crushes in this series and it is…bloody fantastic. They’re exhausting, they’re passionate, they’re…

Just read them. You’ll understand.

My Pick: Team Rowan, Team Aedion, screw Chaol.

3. The Best Lies by Sarah Lyu

Genre: YA/Contemporary/Thriller

Now this isn’t your TYPICAL love triangle, but I think it more than deserves its spot on this list.

The Best Lies is about Remy Tsai and the story of how her best friend ended up shooting her boyfriend and killing him. It switches between Remy being questioned by the police and dealing with the aftermath, with a bunch of flashbacks to moments with her boyfriend Jack and her best friend Elise.

As I said, this is an unconventional love triangle. You might think you know where it will end up, but you’d be wrong. It is beautifully written, will take your breath away, and then sprinkle dirt on top of you as you slowly begin to die.

Ugh. I’m still reeling.

My pick: Just be single, girl.

4. Born at Midnight (Shadow Falls series) by C.C. Hunter

Genre: YA/Fantasy/Paranormal

Born at Midnight is kind of your typical teen fantasy love triangle series. Kylie Galen finds herself sent to a campy for “troubled youth”, but really the troubled youth is just a bunch of teen werewolves, shapeshifters, vampires, witches, and fairies.

This love triangle is between Kylie, obviously, Derek (half-fae) and Lucas (werewolf). There is drama, there is secret kisses and tumultuous past feelings and there are EVEN countless attempts at our main character being killed!

How romantic.

My Pick: Lucas

5. The Selection (The Selection series) by Kiera Cass

Genre: YA/Romance/Fantasy

The Selection: It’s like The Bachelor for the YA book obsessed boys and girls who have an affinity to ball gowns and castles.

The quest to LITERALLY marry your Prince Charming.

Thirty-five eligible girls are picked around the kingdoms to compete to win the hear of Prince Maxon. But our main character, America, has no desire to be in the running because she is in love with a boy named Aspen, who is in a caste below her.

This turns into a love triangle that I found myself conflicted with who to root for. The “down to earth” love from her past, or the regal and charming prince in her present?

My Pick: Aspen, but it’s a tough call!

6. A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR series) by Sarah J. Maas

Genre: YA/Adult/Fantasy/Romance

Don’t act so surprised.

You knew I was going to put ACOTAR in this list.

It is THE love triangle!

ACOTAR is a loose beauty in the beast retelling about a human girl named Feyre who kills a wolf in order to provide for her poor and less than helpful family. But then a Fae beast show up at her house, demanding she live out her days in his territory for taking his friend’s life.

That isn’t even a smidge of the devastating beauty and sorrowful wrath that this book is.

But a love triangle LIKE NO OTHER is filled within these magnificent pages, and I think it is the best one I have EVER come across.

My Pick: The NAGC…and Cassian, even though that doesn’t count ❤

7. Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely series) by Melissa Marr

Genre: YA/Fantasy/Paranormal

Wicked Lovely is a fae series that showcases the darker and more cruel side of the whimsical creatures you love to read about.

Aislinn is a human that has the ability to see faeries, even though she wish she didn’t. She has spent her whole life trying to avoid them, but suddenly, all her hard work is for not…and she is thrust into the thicket of these sneaky creatures.

This love triangle involves Aislinn, Seth and Keenan. Seth is a human friend of Aislinn’s and Keenan is Fae, but also the Summer King. Though USUALLY I always go for the mysterious, arrogant, dark creature type of love interest…I can’t help but like Seth a little more.

Well, at least in the first book.

My Pick: Seth

8. The Host (The Host series) by Stephanie Meyer

Genre: YA/Adult/Fantasy/Romance

The Host is yet another lusty love triangle from Stephanie Meyer, but one that has WAY less cringe and a little more flare.

Aliens has taken over Earth, inhabiting the bodies of humans. Melanie Stryder is no playing host to an alien creature, but she refuses to go quietly. Hellbent on finding her brother, the battle for control of Melanie’s body begins.

So this love triangle is really more of a square, but you get the idea. Melanie is still in her body, but so is an alien. They can communicate with each other and…it’s just odd. Melanie is in love with Jared, the guy she was with before she became a host. But the “alien” inside Melanie, named Wanderer, begins to have feelings for Ian…but also Jared due to Melanie’s memories.

I know…sounds weird.

But sooooooo good!

My Pick: Ian, surprisingly

9. Red Queen (Red Quuen series) by Victoria Aveyard

Genre: YA/Fantasy/Dystopian

Not my favorite series ever, but there is still a quote from it that I LOVE.

“I don’t miss her eyes flicker back to the notch, where half my heart sleeps. And then to the forest, where the rest wanders.”

Red Queen is about a world that is divded by the color of blood you have, red or silver. Red are the lower class, with silver being the high who possess powers. Mare is a red blood, but eventually begins working in the palace, and eventually she discovers that she has powers of her own.

Blah, blah, blah.

The triangle is this: Mare, Cal and Maven. Be aware, this is one of those very lonnggg drawn-out love triangles. The ones where little things are said, slight looks and movements are made, but not really anything of consequence happens for a while. It’s just a meh triangle for me, but a triangle nonetheless.

10. Splintered (Splintered series) by A.G. Howard

Genre: YA/Fantasy/Retelling

Splintered is the first in the Alice in Wonderland Retelling trilogy called Splintered, and follows Alyssa Gardner, a descendant of Alice Liddell who finds herself in Wonderland. But this Wonderland isn’t the cutesy little place with a couple of tricks and sassy characters roaming around. It is dark, gritty and full of countless dangers!

This love triangle involves Alyssa, her best friend Jeb and the mysterious and alluring Morpheus of Wonderland. This love triangle was super one-sided for me, inthe sense that I was rooting for Morpheus the ENTIRE time! Jeb was so blah and boring. Like stale bread, or unseasoned chicken.

My Pick: Team Morpheus, ALL. THE. WAY.

1. Drowning by Margaret McHeyzer

Drowning is about a girl named Ivy who has been cutting for years, but has kept it hidden from her friends and family. There is a demon in her head that tells her to cut and hurt herself, and more times than not, she isn’t able to fight him off. But when a young man named Tobias enters the picture, Ivy wonders if it’s finally time to let the truth be known.

As I had said in my review, the intent for this book was solid, but the execution was lacking and cringe-worthy.

The author was SO focused on stuffing this book with hot topics (self-harm, sexual abuse, school shootings, homophobia, codependency, suicide, schizophrenia) that she forgot to focus on the character development.

I’m all for talking about important topics, but the way the author shoved all of this into one book felt so exaggerated and unbelievable. There was no connection to the characters, they were vapid and boring, and I just wasn’t impressed with this book.

2. The Unrepentant by E.A. Aymar

I was VERY excited to start The Unrepentant, which was gifted to me from JKS Communications in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately, it was a DNF for me.

But trust me when I say, it had NOTHING to do with the writing style, the characters or the plot! The subject matter in this story is REALLY heavy. You will need thick skin to read it, and even then, I’d be surprised if it was easy for you to get through this book.

It is the story of a girl named Charlotte who is on the run from the gang that kidnapped and forced her into a life of sex trafficking and physical abuse. She is rescued by a man named Mace that happens upon her and her kidnappers in the woods, and the story follows the two as they flee.

WARNING: This is an ADULT book and depicts graphic sexual content, rape and violence.

This book has phenomenal reviews on Goodreads, so if you think you are up for it, I would really recommend this book. It has a powerful message and the first half that I read was really amazing.

This is my third time reading TOG.

Yes.

It is STILL hurting my heart.

I am taking my time reading these books again, since I am reading them in between every other book I have on my list.

*Sigh*

The series begins with 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien being dragged from the hard labor prison of Endovier, to the Crown Prince of Adarlan. She is to be the Prince’s champion in a competition to win the title of Adarlan’s Assassin, in exchange for her freedom after a few years of service.

If you haven’t read the books yet, YOU MUST!

They are action-packed, romantic beyond belief, full of magic and will make you sob all night long.

Do it, you know you want to.

5. Stolen by Marlena Frank

Stolen is a YA Fantasy with Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz and Labyrinth themes throughout.

It follows main character and sixteen-year-old Shaleigh Mallet as she is kidnapped and taken into another world filled with mystical creatures and magic. There is an evil “Queen” residing over a garden, a cowardly lion, a rat-boy creature driving a flying bike…sound familiar? In this new land, Shaleigh must prove to the court that she is the reincarnation of a powerful magician that once ruled the land.

A very cute and wonderful world, but one that I was feeling a tad bored in. The pacing was a smidge slow, and I didn’t have a huge connection to any of the characters. I might suggest this book for a younger audience. Very enjoyable, but a little too simple for me.

6. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

THIS BOOK!!!!!!

Still wondering how and WHY I waited SO long to begin this series!

Mara Dyer wakes in the hospital after a fatal accident that claimed the lives of her best friend, her boyfriend and another friend. Unable to remember the events of the accident, or to cope with her loss, Mara convinces her family to move. Once in Miami, Florida Mara tries to transition into life at her new school. But two students tormenting her, unwanted attention from the mysterious Noah Shaw, and daily hallucinations of her dead friends slowly put Mara over the edge.

I LOVED reading this.

The characters are incredibly molded and so amusing! The banter is witty and sarcastic, and I spent most of my time reading this laughing out loud or with a stupid smile plastered on my face.

Once you can get past Noah‘s initial asshat-ness, the romance is wonderful and sweet and OH SO swoon–worthy. I am currently reading book two in the series, and really enjoying it!

This series is EVERYTHING our mushy, hopeful souls need when it comes to romance. Some Fae male to steal us away from the human realm, a first love, despair, true love/mates and a High Court of lethal dark characters.

I am currently reading this series over, AGAIN, just because I needed that soul-clenching love to hit me like a ton of bricks.

2. Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

Just Listen

A favorite of mine for YEARS! Just Listen is an incredibly sweet and sad story. It follows a girl named Annabel who is dealing with a very traumatic event that happened one night with her former friend Sophie. As she tries to come to grips with the event, she meets a guy named Owen who helps put her back on her feet.

This is SUCH a touching story that focuses on some serious topics like anorexia and sexual assault, but it is also a tender story of acceptance and forgiveness.

This will make you swoon.

3. The Purification Era series by Angie Grigaliunas

If you want a Fantasy series obsession, with a truly envious romance, READ THESE BOOKS!

Sowing and Quelling follow the lives of two sisters, Ariliah and Rabreah, as they try to find their place in a village ruled over by the Hulcondans – ruthless soldiers who are meant to protect the city and inhabitants. For Ariliah, the Hulcondans are her protectors and people she trusts without question, but for Rabreah, they are vile and will take advantage of men and women just because they are the law.

Rabreah joins the rebellion and meets Sorek, their fearless leader. So ensues a tale of an uprising, battles and murders, and of course…romance.

The romance in this series is definitely one of my favorites, because the characters feel SO real and relatable. The love in this series is a slow-build, so one you can definitely get to know and appreciate. Plus, the female characters are BADASS and Sorek is truly my dream man. ❤ LOVE it.

4. Atonement by Ian McEwan

This will rip your heart out.

This book starts in 1934 and takes the reader through World War II, following the lives of two lovers, Robbie and Cecilia. It begins with a young girl named Briony making a colossal mistake of accusing Robbie of a heinous crime one summer night, which in turns changes the lives of these three characters forever.

This is a tale of fierce love and loss, and will absolutely make you WEEP.

I’m not kidding guys, this will crush you.

But it’s just OH SO worth it!

5. A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard

This is a BEAUTIFUL and UNIQUE YA contemporary romance that I know you guys will LOVE!

Steffi is a selective mute, and has been for years. But with her choice of silence comes isolation from her peers at school, until she meets Rhys. Rhys is deaf but is able to communicate with Steffi through sign language. Soon a romance sparks between them, and they learn how to navigate through the world together.

This book does a fantastic job of showcasing the struggles that both of these characters endure, while also giving it a positive layer of perseverance and helping one another grow.

It’s a fantastic coming-of-age story, and one with a romance SO sweet and innocent that you’ll want to put these two in your pocket.

6. The Mediator series by Meg Cabot

I have always had a liking for Meg Cabot books (especially the 1-800-Where-Are-You series) and this series is no exception.

The main character, Suze, can speak to the dead. The series goes through her life at school, and each book showcases a new spirit who needs her help to cross over or move on. But the real story is with a ghost named Jesse who she falls MADLY in love with, even though they obviously cannot be together.

It is a very lighthearted and enjoyable series, and one you will FLY through.

7. Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas

There obviously can’t be a “Love is in the Air” post without Throne of Glass!

This series as you know (at least, I hope you know) is positively SEEPING in romance and lust! There’s endless games of cat and mouse, love triangles, mates, deaths, battles and murders. It is a series with such intense and soul-crushing romance that you will never again be satisfied in an actual relationship in real life.

You can thank Sarah J. Maas for that.

There’s just SOMETHING about a man that would skin someone alive for hurting you ❤

8. Dreamland by Sarah Dessen

Dreamland is another book you will need that box of tissues for, so I hope you’re stocking up now!

Caitlin and Rogerson.

The beautiful relationship that starts out so promising, so smoothly, and then…it shatters.

It’s a relationship that is just as much addicting as it is toxic. It is one that is SO relatable to so many readers, and teaches us all a really amazing lesson.

9. A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks

I think we have all seen this amazing movie, but have you read the book?!

The book is set in 1958 and follows Landon Carter as he recounts his days in high school. He starts to spend his time with Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town’s Baptist minister, and soon a romance blossoms. This story is a passionate fairy-tale dream, one with a bad boy falling in love with a sweet girl…but one that also ends on a sad note.

If this doesn’t capture your heart, I don’t know what will.

My stomach is doing little flips just thinking about it!

10. The Garden by John Nuckel

The Garden

The Garden is a short story of love and forgiveness.

Walt is nearing the end of his life, and while laying in the hospital he recounts small memories with his daughters and late wife, Meg. The reader follows Walt as he makes his journey into the afterlife by making amends with his daughter.

It is a short and sweet tale filled with love and adoration, and one that completely reminds me of Carl and Ellie.

11. Th1rteen R3asons Why by Jay Asher

Thirteen Reasons Why has been at the top of my “Most Obsessed-Over Books” for years now, and there’s so many reasons why.

Not only is it COMPLETELY unique, but it gets down and dirty into suicide and what comes after.

Clay Jensen comes home one day to find a box of cassette tapes addressed to him. As he plays the first tape, he realizes it is Hannah, a girl who had committed suicide two weeks earlier. On each tape Hannah gives a reason that lead to her decision to kill herself, and that the tapes will be sent to each person who played a role in her suicide.

This book will strip you bare, make you take a long hard look at yourself and your actions, and will make you feel EVERY SINGLE FEEL there is.

It’s the story of a romance that never was, but in my opinion, a romance that is incredibly powerful and important.

12. The Darkness series by Stacey Marie Brown

On a lighter note…

…The Darkness series!

This is a Mature YA Paranormal Romance that includes demons, faeries, goblins and Dark Dwellers. This series is HOT, HOT, HOT!!! It’s like a Twilight for the mature reader, but with more bloodshed and better writing 😉

It is about a girl named Ember who is forced into a school for troubled youth after she accidentally causes a series of electrical explosions. Here Ember learns the truth of what she is, a species of Otherworld that is forbidden to be alive, and falls for the alluring and dangerous Eli Dragen.

It is another story with a romance that builds, so don’t worry…no Insta-Love here!

13. Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen

Awwww…Young love!

If you have not had the immense pleasure of reading Flipped, you NEED to get involved!

It’s a Pre-teen/YA Coming-of-age Contemporary Romance, but is a wonderful read for all ages! The story flips back and forth between Julie Baker and Bryce Loski as they grow older. Julie has been in love with Bryce since the day they met when his family moved in across the street, but Bryce wants nothing more than for Julie to leave him alone.

It is a WONDERFUL, innocent and heart-filling story of two young characters as they grow, make life decisions, and really find out who they are and who they want to be.

14. The Immortals series by Alyson Noel

The Immortals is YA Fantasy/Paranormal romance series about a girl who acquires the ability to read people’s auras after a fatal car accident. By just touching someone, Ever can learn someone’s life story. This pushes Ever into a life of isolation from her peers, until a boy named Damen enters her life. Damen is both mysterious and intoxicating, but knows just how to help her and keep her sane among the insanity that her life has become.

This series is the epitome of a love story. It is SO sweet and beautiful, and definitely the reason I have such high expectations when being courted! 😉

15. Kissed by an Angel by Elizabeth Chandler

AW, this brings back such wonderful memories!

I read this series in high school. I fell in love with it, and expected all my future loves to be JUST. LIKE. THIS.

Obviously, I was very wrong. But I’m still hoping!

Ivy and Tristan are everything that embodies the title of love. When Tristan suddenly dies in a car accident, Ivy’s world shatters from the loss of her soulmate. But when Tristan comes back as an angel to protect and watch over Ivy, his dreams are crushed when she is unable to feel his presence.

I know it sounds cheesy, and it is. I mean come on, it’s a LOVE story guys! But trust me, this is a swoon-worthy series and will make you wish you had an angel to fall in love with.

Ugh, am I the only one nauseous from the FEELS of all those books?!

I just want to crawl into a hole and suffocate myself with every single one of these romance books, until my hole becomes a puddle from my tears.

Binding of Bindings #2: My Top 10 Best Books of 2018

Happy Friday my lovely bookworms!

We are back with another weekly Binding of Bindings and showcasing my favorite reads from 2018, in a big black cauldron of Yes, YES, YESSSS!

Servings: 10

Read Time: 80-100 Hours

Book Hangover Time: Eternity

Calories: 0 (Keto, Paleo, Vegan, Vegetarian, and Gluten-Free)

Ingredients: Magic, tears, humor, anxiety, love, adventure and a royal or two

Directions:

Start by opening your spell books to page 394
Grease your cauldron with the heart of a Villain, and preheat to 975 degrees.
In a large bowl add your dry ingredients: 1/4 Cup of Historical Fiction, 1 Cup of Adventure and 1 heaping Tablespoon of sarcasm. Mix together thoroughly.
Add 4 cups of Fantasy and 1 Pound of fresh Young Adults.
Stir in a handful of Science Fiction and a sprinkle of sadness and regret.
Now carefully fold in your 2 cups of mini spells and curses, and maybe even a zombie (optional).
Pour the mixture into your cauldron and stir rapidly until sparks fly and it begins smoking.

My Top 10 Best Books of 2018

The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith

The obvious place to start is at the most morbid one.

Did I say morbid? I meant soul-crushing.

This book is all the feels and the most brutal of my 10. It’s the story of how a girl lives the rest of her high school years after being raped one night. The reader follows Eden as she struggles to come to terms with what happened, and while she seeks to find a way to relieve her pain.

Clear a day and night for this read. You’ll need it.

2. Along the Indigo by Elsie Chapman

Along the Indigo is intriguing, unique and BEGS to be read. It’s slightly unorthodox in that the main character skims dead bodies and lives in a brothel.

HEAR ME OUT!

It sounds a little weird, but its actually a hidden-gem and something I guarantee you haven’t read before. It’s a about a sixteen-year-old girl named Mars who seeks to leave her small town with her sister. Down by their home there is the covert where townspeople go to commit suicide, and where Mars skims bodies for money to escape. It sounds strange I know, but it will forever be one of my favorite YA books. You can check out my review for Along the Indigo here.

3. The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw

A 2018 FAVORITE of MANY readers, The Wicked Deep is the perfect witchy story. The legend goes that three sisters were drowned by the townspeople of Sparrow in the early 1800’s, and each Swan Season three girls are inhabited by one of the sisters who seek their vengeance by drowning a boy each. Ash Princess is the first in this amazing trilogy, and I know I’m not alone when I say I can barely stand waiting for book 2! It’s about a Princess who’s country was invaded when she was child, her parents were killed in front of her and she was enslaved by her conquerors. Years later, she is used as a trophy for the Kaiser to show his people (and hers) that he won. It is a tale of rebellion, and of brutality. Buckle in for this one! 5. Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas

I can’t believe it’s over!!

I devoured five of the seven books in this series in 2018, and I have read through them twice more to prepare me for the last two. This series is EVERYTHING a Fantasy addict could hope for in a series. A badass female assassin with a pension for stabbing people, magic, Fae, demons, WITCHES! This series did not disappoint, and all I am left with is a sadness and hole in my chest because it’s over….and I’ll never be the same.

6. The Lone City series by Amy Ewing

I know I mentioned this series in my last post. It’s only because it is THAT amazing. The Handmaid’s Tale meets the YA world in ball gowns and rebellions. It’s a vicious, vicious world in The Lone City, so bring your battle-gear readers! You guys won’t be able to stop yourselves from annihilating these books. They’re just amazing.

7. Dead Dog (Zombie Dog series, Book 2) by Doug Goodman

I was SO lucky to have received this second book in the Zombie Dog series from Doug Goodman! This series is great for the readers who love books set in the wilderness, and who also love science fiction. It’s all about a young woman who formally trained dogs to be Cadaver Dogs (to find dead bodies), but who now works with her lead dog Murder to hunt zombies. But these aren’t those virus-ridden drooling zombies. These are wasps who have attached to the heads of humans, and who are reproducing at a rapid rate.

8. Quelling (The Purification Era, Book 2) by Angie Grigaliunas

If there was one book I could describe as making me happy cry EVERY TIME I read it, it would be this book and this series.

I was SO lucky to have been able to Beta/Alpha read this book, especially because I needed to know what happened. This books follows two sisters, with two very different outlooks on their governments. One appears to be meek and trust her superiors without question, while the other hates them and joins a rebellion to end their control. This book has a feel of The Handmaid’s Tale, but is completely of its own uniqueness.

This is not a recommendation. This is an order. Buy these books.

9. The Quantum Ghost (The Quantum Worlds, Book 2) by Jonathan Ballagh

This is the second book in a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. The main character is a young child, but it is a great read for any age! It is all about traveling into a parallel dimension and fighting evil androids who have taken over humans. It is EXCITING and it is so incredibly enjoyable. See my review here for more information.

10. In The Company of Wolves (Of Witches and Werewolves, Book 2) by Cory Barclay

If you have noticed from my reviews and posts, I don’t get around to reading too many Historical Fictions. Thankfully I gave this series a shot, because it is SPECTACULAR. The writing is fantastic, the characters are well-formed, and it twists a little fact with fiction. This series starts at the height of religious reformation in Europe in 1589, and is based on an ACTUAL trial that was held for a man called the Werewolf of Bedburg, who was accused of murder and cannibalism. This series snowballs into something truly fantastic, and I am so excited to read book three in 2019!
